Golden Eagle Festival in Bayan-Ulgii Province, located in the Altai Mountains of Western Mongolia. This region is ethnically Kazakh and its peoples share a culture with neighboring Kazakhstan.
The Golden Eagle Festival is featured in the 2016 documentary The Eagle Huntress, in which the 13-year-old Kazakh girl Aisholpan becomes the first female to enter and win the competition. Xanadu Travel is proud to offer visitors the opportunity to join with local herders and learn their ancient art from the rigorous training that young birds receive, through to the excitement of witnessing the hunt. The Golden Eagle Festival held during the first weekend in October, run by the Mongolian Eagle Hunters’s Association.
The Golden Eagle Festival is a highlight of any traveler’s visit to Mongolia.
This annual Eagle Festival is a tournament of falconers from the region, who hunt with trained eagles. Festival’s ticket $30 per person for two days of competition.

Day 1 Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
On arrival at Genghis Khaan International Airport then we transfer to the Hotel to freshen up and you may need some time to relax from the long –distance flight or possibly from jet lag

Day 2 Flight to Bayan-Ulgii - Golden Eagle Festival & Opening Ceremony
Transfer to the airport for a morning flight (3hours), capital of Bayan-Ulgii, Western Mongolia.
It is the largest town in the area and its center of the predominately Kazakh region of Mongolia. The isolation of the Altai Mountains has preserved the language and traditions of the Kazakhs
Breakfast at the town and we will attend the official opening ceremony of Golden Eagle Festival. It commences with the participants parading is on horseback with their eagles. For two unforgettable days, experience the Golden Eagle Festival’s colorful parades and thrilling competitions. In the eagle festival, Kazakh Eagle Hunters (Burkitshi) celebrate their heritage and compete to catch small animals such as foxes and hares with specially trained golden eagles, showing off the skills both of the birds and the trainers.
After the festivities have completed, spend the day riding horses with the eagle hunters while getting to know the local area. Dinner and overnight at the ger camp

Day 3 Full day at Golden Eagle Festival & Award Ceremony
Today we will see and enjoy the Kazakhs will compete in their traditional game called (Kokbar) or goat drugging were two participants on horseback try and snatch a goat’s carcass from one another, says Yolanda Saayman. This tug-of-war is one of the more exciting, popular events during the Golden Eagle Festival and the friendly village rivalry keeps the spectators entertained.
In the afternoon, the winners of the festival will be announced at the awards ceremony and we will visit Museum, it is good overview of the Muslim culture of Western of Mongolia that differs so much from most of Mongolia. Also on this day we will visit Kazakh family and explore their settlement. Their Ger(yurt) is decorated with brightly colored rug. We will enjoy their hospitality and learn more about their culture and you will see their traditional technology to make colorful rug. In the evening we will enjoy a celebration dinner. Day 4 Flight back to Ulaanbaatar-City tour
After breakfast, you will be transferred back to the Ulgii airport. We bid farewell to our Ulgii staff and fly to Ulaanbaatar. Upon we arrive in the city and transfer to your hotel, and we meet at 12pm for lunch then our tour of Ulaanbaatar starts to visit the National History Museum and see sights from Mongolia’s history from pre-historic times the Mongol Empire up until Mongolia’s more recent communist past. Next stop is Sukhbaatar Square, the town’s central square named after the people’s revolutionary hero. There is an equestrian statue of Sukhbaatar and a massive Bronze statue of Genghis Khan with his four warriors in front of Parliament house. Continue to Zaisan memorial on the side MT Bogd Khan was constructed in memory of fallen soldiers and makes an ideal point to start our tour and offers panoramic views of the city.
This evening we will enjoy a performance of traditional Mongolian song and dance “Wonders of Mongolia” folklore show by famous Tumen-Ekh ensemble. The most interesting performances are the throat singing, contortionists and Tsam dancers, Khoomii ot throat singing is a musical art delivered with the help of a guttural voice and specific way of breathing. This is one of the most successful folk art groups to share traditional Mongolian music with the world.
