DETAILED ITINERARY:   

 Day 01: Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

On arrival at Genghis Khaan International Airport then we transfer to the Hotel to freshen up and you may need some time to relax from the long –distance flight or possibly from jet lag 

 Accommodation: Hotel***. Meals: not included on this day

Day 02: Flight to Western Mongolia

Pick up from your hotel at 12pm. We transfer to the airport for afternoon flight to Western Mongolia-(14:20/17:20) and arrive in Ulgii - The capital of Bayan-Ulgii. Our guide and driver will be waiting for you a holding board with your name. Then we transfer to Tsambagarav hotel. Then we visit to Utau Shop/handicrafts/, and also visit to the market.  Dinner and Overnight.

Day 03: Ulaankhus-Oigor- See Petrolyph

This morning we meet our cook with food stuff, then we board our car for the continuation of our journey westwards Oigor (200km).  The terrain varies from undulating dry hills to fertile river valleys, dotted with white gers and herds of yaks, camels and sheep. On the way we will see biggest concentration of petroglyphs with over 10 000, which is Tsgaan sala site, is situated along a 15 km river. We arrive in the evening and we have plenty of opportunity to meet and stay at the Kazakh herders who inhabit this region. This will be your first chance to sleep traditional Kazakh ger. They also do wonderful felt crafts.

Day 04: View of Altai Tavan Bogd

 After breakfast cook will prepare for you take away picnic lunch and cook will stay at the family. Then we drive short detour to Altai Tavan Bogd (17km). The highest peaks in Mongolia(4374m /14350ft) the Altai Tavan Bogd – Five Holy Peaks – lie at the intersection of the Russian, Chinese and Mongolian borders. You will start to hike for approximately 6-8 km for view of Mountains and edge of Potanin Glacier. The hike takes us over lush alpine tundra, with fantastic views directly across the glacier or around the glacier. The Potanin Glacier is the longest glacier in Mongolia. Its long about 14 kms and located through in the Altai Tavan Bogd mountain in Altai Mountains. Our car will be waiting you at point of your hike start. Before dinner we drive back and Overnight.

Day 05: Tsengel Village - Waterfall

Today we drive to Tsengel sum. The inhabitants are mainly Tuvan, known as Tsengel Tuvans. Tuvans are shamans, and there are some tribe people who really practice shaman. The population of the village in 2018 was 9 450, with 2 920 living in the village center. Its nearest point of Hoton Hurgan Lake NP area and beautiful landscapes with crystal clear lakes and snowcapped background mountains. As this is the season when nomads do autumn migration from place to place so you will have possibility of chance to see migration of local nomads from place to place. We continuing to drive short detour to Baga Waterfall. This waterfall formed from small glacier up the Altai range mountain and flows through local Kazakh nomads. This is very beautiful spot with gorges mountains different lifestyles around. We will explore around free afternoon to hike in this area.  As easy to get there it is very good short hiking through local Kazakh nomads meet their everyday activity, visit the waterfall, also enjoy perfect landscapes and even swim that waterfall. We arrive at the roadhead in the evening and set up camp /tent/.

Day 06-07: Hoton Hurgan Lake National Park

After breakfast, we drive short detour to Hoton Hurgan Lake NP area. Hoton Lake and Hurgan Lake are two further highlights of Altai Tavan Bogd National Park and are some of the more popular tourist attractions in Western Mongolia. But the western shore of Hoton Lake is really beautiful, with scenery, streams and valleys that rival..We will have 2 days explore and hike around in this beautiful place and nice place for birdwatching.

Day 08: Sagsai village 

Today we continue drive to Sagsai village (150km). Sagsai is a village of Bayan-Ulgii. It was established in 1959. About 1200 households, more than 6000 people and about 120.0 thousand livestock. Every year  Sagsai hosts the Golden Eagle Hunting Festival on the first weekend of October to celebrate its heritage. We will pass the village and set up the camp at the nice spot.

Day 09: Tolbo Lake

Drive towards to Tolbo Lake. Tolbo is freshwater lake, on the main road between Ulgii and Khovd cities.

The lake was the witness of the battle of Tolbo, was fought here in 1921 between the Bolshevks and White Russian, with the local Mongolian general Khasbaatar, siding with the Bolsheviks. The Bolsheviks won and there are a couple of memorial plaques by the lake. Lake is also amazing for fishing activities.

Tonight will be our first night staying ger camp and we check in to the tourist camp.

Day 10, 11: Bayn Nuur and Ulgii Village

Today our journey is starting to drive Uvs province. On the way we visit the villages to Uvs. Bayan nuur is a village of Bayan-Ulgii. It is located a border with the Uvs province. In this two days we will drive hard, but we will set up the camp in the nice spot and enjoy the gorgeous view of them during the sun set and sun rise.

Day 12,13: Hyargas Lake 

Today we drive to Hyargas Lake. The Hyargas lake is one of the 4 lakes which cover more than 1000 square. We have two full days in this beautiful place. First night we stay at the tourist camp, and in the second night we will sleep in our tent. Camping here is a fantastic activity, as well as nature.

On second day we will hike to Khestuu Khad. The most attractive palce of this lake is Khestuu Khad, translated “Difficult Cliffs”, gorgeous cliffs with amazing view. This is the one of the best place for bird watching.

Day 14: Ulaangom 

We bid farewell to Hyargas Lake and re-trace our steps towards Ulaangom-Capital of Uvs and stopping for a lunch along the way. Arriving in Ulaangom in the early evening check in to the Grand Hotel

Day 15: Flight to Ulaanbaatar

We take the morning return flight to Ulaanbaatar, transfer to hotel

Day 16: City tour of Ulaanbaatar

9:00am our tour of Ulaanbaatar starts in earnest. We start our city tour with a visit to Gandan Monastery, the largest and most famous functioning monastery in Mongolia.  Here we will see the impressive Golden Buddha Statue of Migjid Janraisag and may experience monks in worship. From here we will visit the National History Museum and see sights from Mongolia’s history from pre-historic times the Mongol Empire up until Mongolia’s more recent communist past. Next stop is Sukhbaatar Square, the town’s central square named after the people’s revolutionary hero. There is an equestrian statue of Sukhbaatar and a massive Bronze statue of Genghis Khan with his four warriors in front of Parliament house. We will have lunch at Modern Nomads which is one of the best restaurant in the city. Afterwards we visit Bogd Khan Palace museum - the complex was a residence of 8th Bogd Javzandamba in 19th century, the head of Mongolian religion. The palace consists of seven Summer Prayer temples and the winter palace. Continue to Zaisan memorial on the side MT Bogd Khan was constructed in memory of fallen soldiers and makes an ideal point to start our tour and offers panoramic views of the city.

 This evening we will enjoy a performance of traditional Mongolian song and dance “Wonders of Mongolia” folklore show by famous Tumen-Ekh ensemble. The most interesting performances are the throat singing, contortionists and Tsam dancers, Khoomii ot throat singing is a musical art delivered with the help of a guttural voice and specific way of breathing. This is one of the most successful folk art groups to share traditional Mongolian music with the world.
